My roster for September has just been published, and it's a fantastic schedule except I'm not going home. I'm going to Dhaka, Frankfurt, London, Munich and Bangkok, on all accounts a superb schedule, but I'm really upset because I haven't got more than 2 days off in a row when I can fly home. I'm wondering what's the point of being based overseas now that I'm looking forward to returning to Singapore more than ever - ah, the money. I must try to keep that in mind the next time I feel like whinging.

Because calling Singapore from Abu Dhabi is so very expensive, I've taken to communicating with my family solely by e-mails. I'm very touched that my parents are taking the effort to write e-mails to me, they of the generation that associate e-mails with the office, work, programmes like Excel that doesn't make sense and all things nasty. My dad just sent me an e-mail saying that Ren's got her Australian internship with Pacific Food Industries, congratulations-but-why-am-I-not-hearing-from-you-firsthand! My mother is no better, sounding stilted as hell in her e-mails, but I love them so for making the effort.

There's no way I can retrieve my laptop until October, when I might get a Singapore flight if I'm lucky, or if I get enough days off together for me to fly back to Singapore. Until then, my online presence is solely dependent on the goodwill of my 2 fantastic friends P and J, what will I ever do in Abu Dhabi without them. Until the laptop returns, I'm afraid updates will be kept short and sweet like this, since the occupants of this building are mainly noobs who have zero ettiquette when it comes to computers installed for shared use.
